In defense of benchmarks (or at least Geekbench) -Ars Technica

I have some disagreements with some of the stuff here (and I think I’m known rightly or wrongly as being pretty anti benchmark).

But it’s enlightening to hear from the creators their intent and purpose. And actually, my biggest complaint about benchmarks isn’t the benchmarks themselves, but the many, many ways they are misused and misunderstood.

Interesting read, but since the vast majority of the buying public doesn’t know, understand, or care that benchmarks can be gamed (my bad, you can tune your hardware to improve benchmark performance) I guess they have their purpose.
