What programmatically causes the "Forward" and "Back" and similar functions?

I’m using a program:

but when I try to use a stylus in it, I get:

what programmatically causes that and how could it be controlled? Put in an issue on it, but the developer doesn’t have a Windows tablet, and can’t replicate it w/ a Wacom graphics tablet.

To close the loop here, the icon in question comes from “Flicks”:

Turning off Flicks allowed me to use the program as expected.
