In purely anecdotal and short term use on my part. perhaps it does improve things over older versions of Chrome, but it still trails Safari by miles…

That’s an awfully positive spin from the Verge. Alternate title: “Google Chrome’s latest power use doesn’t suck as much … power.”

I recall years ago it was also a huge battery drain on Windows, something related to a timer/clock or so keeping the CPU out of a reduced power state. Hopefully they’re being shamed into improving battery performance on all non-Android OSes.
